R&I Strategic Planning

UMK has outlined several action plans that will need to be considered in order to empower Research and Innovation (R&I) at the university. Starting from 2016 and up to 2020, UMK hopes to strengthen the strong foundation that has been laid out for research and innovation to complement the growing needs of R&I in the country and remain competitive at the international level.

Targets are set up based on the UMK Strategic Planning on Research and Innovation (2016 – 2020) published by the Corporate Development and Quality Management Office, which highlights the following:

• Involvement of industries of at least 50% in R&I by 2020
• Average research grant - RM20K per academic staff per year by 2020
• International research grant of at least RM100,000.00 by 2020
• Number of IP of at least five (5) per year starting from 2019
• Ratio of publication in refereed journals of 0.7 per year for each staff from 2016
• Conference presentation by academic staff of at least once (1) per year from 2016
• Research recognition (awards) of five (5) gold medals per year from 2016
• Commercialization of at least two (2) research products by 2020
• Organization of at least five (5) research conferences, seminar and short courses at national and/or international level per year by 2020
• Establishment of eight (8) COEs to support R&I by 2020
